ALICE logo

ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is one of the four large detectors installed at the LHC. Its main scientific objective is to study the properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), furthermore the detector is also ideal to study many other aspects of quantum chromodynamics (QCD).

The activities of our group are the following

Instrumentation

We participate in two detector projects FIT and MFT.
In the FIT project we are in charge of the FDD (Forward Diffraction Detector) which has been built in our laboratory in Prague. It is an instrument based on scintillators, wave-length shifters and PMTs. It has two arms: one is already installed at the LHC and the second will be installed in the next few weeks.

In the MFT (Muon Forward Tracker) project we have participated in the construction and commissioning of the detector. Currently we are in charge of the quality control system and planning to take an important role on the operation of the detector.

Analysis of data

We are strongly involved in three type of analyses: Correlations and flow, ultra-peripheral collisions and luminosity determination. Members of our groups, including students, have led several studies that have been published in some of the most reputed journals of the fields

Phenomenology

Our group is in close contact with our theorist friends, both in our own institution and in other institutions around the world and collaborates with them in the development of models and observables that could be tested experimentally. This collaboration has been very fruitful and has produced several articles in high-impact journals.

Group Members

The members of our group are, and have been, members of the main governing bodies of the collaboration: Physics Board, Conference Committee, Editorial Board, Juniors and so on. Currently our group is formed by 4 senior scientists, 3 younger colleagues with a few years of experience after their PhD, and several students at the PhD, MSc and BSc levels.
