ALICE Experiment
ALICE stands for A Large Ion Collider Experiment, one of the world's largest experiments in microworld physics. It is one of the four main experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) near Geneva,
Switzerland. Almost 2,000 physicists, technicians and engineers from 165 institutions in 39 countries.
The Czech participation in the ALICE Experiment ranges from instrumentation to data analysis.
Instrumentation:
Our group contributes to the operation and mantainance of (a) the FDD (Forward Diffraction Detector) which was
built in our Faculty, as well as of (b) the MFT (Muon Forward Tracker) where our group has important responsiblities.
Currently, we are designing and building prototypes for the MuonID, a new detector to be installed in ALICE3 in a few years.
Data Analysis:
Our group has leading roles in the study of QCD at high energies using photon-induced processes, as well as the study of QCD at high
temperatures, the quark-gluon plasma, through the study of collective behaviour. We also study the QCD potential using multiparticle correlations.
